The Art Process in Mr. P's Class

One of the benefits of supervising art education student teachers is witnessing the artistic process among our talented youth. Brittany continues to impress with her thoughtful lesson development, classroom management and personal reflections. She has now experienced the thrill of facilitating and inspiring artistic development and her passion is contagious.

I Am an Artist by Pat Lowery Collins

"I am an artist when I discover shadows made by the moon, or trace patterns in the sand, or when I name the colors inside a shell"

Rubin Vase-Face Illusion

Rubin Vase-Face Illusion

The vase/profile illusion was made famous by Danish psychologist Edgar Rubin in 1915. Its pedigree, however, is much older. Examples can be found in 18th century French prints, in which the portraits not only define a vase, usually in a naturalistic setting, but the profiles themselves differ, each representing a particular person.

My Heroes

I spent the morning visiting one of our graduate art education students and her cooperating teacher/mentor at Mary G. Montgomery High School. I was reminded of why K-12 teachers are my heroes. Despite the challenges, lack of resources and inadequate compensation, teachers like "Mr. P" bring out the best in their students and enthusiastically mentor our future teachers. We couldn't do it without them!!

I can't wait to visit again and see the continuation of this art by Mr. P's talented students!
