Hello Dr. Vitulli! My name is Stephanie Faison, and I am in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class at the University of South Alabama.
I think that interest driven learning is so much more effective than the traditional educational model. Apparently the notion is making waves, as the U.S. Department of Education's Deputy Director has said that the focus is shifting to interest driven learning. Ms. Rhoten's video was very interesting!
She brought up a point that I wonder about though. As an educator, do you think that smartphones will become commonplace, if not required, in the classroom?
Hi, my name is Edna Montgomery, I am a student in EDM 310 at the University of South Alabama. Your plea for a method to incorporate technology as a tool in helping our students to become more interested in the learning process, is a plea school administrators need to address. Technology is a part of our students everyday life, let's bring it into the classrooms.
Hello again Dr. Vitulli! My name is Katlyn Lusker and I am in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class, as well as your class. Thank you for sharing this video! It was very interesting to watch and listen to. I love how one of their goals is to create new youth networks across the city. I also loved how they have such a passion for helping kids find what interests them, and then wanting to help them progress their interests. One of my favorite things Mrs. Rhoten said was, "Part of the opportunity here, is learning the content, which is very much the 20th Century idea around Education, but in 21st Century, it's learning the tools and the skills of remaking that content, becoming the creator and the producer." That almost sums up exactly what we have been learning in EDM 310. To learn from hands on experiences, and to learn the tools and skills needed in order to learn specific things.
