WHY ART MATTERS

Art to me is everything. It is the hardest concept or thing to define because it encompasses everything and is incorporated in all parts of life. In the past I have often defended the Oscar Wilde definition that art must first be beautiful. I have sense expanded my definition because of certain controversial artists whose work I would never define as beautiful but extremely important and thought provoking. I was wondering if you have seen the kinetic artist Theo Jansen who I think will change the world through his art.

Paige Baggett,

My name is Sarah Pierce and I am from Dr. Strange's EDM310 class at the University of South Alabama. I really enjoyed your “why art matters” video. I love art and I agree that art is all of those things. This video was very well designed, blending words with meaningful pictures and images. Art is all around us and it is part of all the educational disciplines. This video does a nice job of making this point. I also really liked the quote at the end by Einstein, “the true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination”. This quote reminds me of what I want to show my students, use their imagination, everyday.
